In today's technological environment, information and solutions are available at the touch of a button; the concept of process is sometimes lost in the fast-paced world we live in.  Study in the musical arts provides that process to both children and adults and allows the brain to utilize new centers as well as setting up an environment of discipline and beauty.  As an expression of harmony, music brings meaning and satisfaction into our lives; through a teaching which encompasses technique, style, musicality, theory, and history, the student employs the human activities of thinking, feeling, and willing to learn a composition, with the goal of  "informed," intelligent performance.  

I use music of the inspired masters when possible, providing a template which can teach us the best that music can offer, giving the student tools to play any music that they can read, whether classical, pop, or hymns.  I purposely do not use technology in the studio, encouraging each student to take advantage of his or her amazing facilities to learn through thinking and doing.  Learning to practice independently and see the success it brings also provides the student with work habits which can be accessed in other areas of their life.

I approach music as an art and a discipline rather than just a method-learning process. Through working with the pieces of music the student is learning, we cover theory, history and style, as well as technique. Working towards a performance gives us more opportunities to refine what we have practiced.  Sight-reading gives us the ability to look ahead and learn to listen.
